We are the school of choice for quality secondary education in the Deep South. Here young people are nurtured through the challenging teen years to graduate as collaborative, confident and competent changemakers.
We offer a structured learning environment where we focus on wellbeing:
Emotional wellbeing: An empathy rich space where relationships are key
Academic wellbeing: Our goal is to get every student who enrols through Matric successfully. Our teacher to pupil ratio is designed for individual attention and guided learning.
Physical wellbeing: an awareness that our physical body needs care.
Community wellbeing: We teach citizenship and compassion through community and environmental outreach.
We offer Grade 8-12 education in classes of no more than 23 students per grade. This high-touch student to teacher ratio allows us to provide quality education tailored to the needs of our individual students.
At Grade 8-9 our learners do the CAPS curriculum supplemented with ICT integration and 4iR skills. Students are guided through the subject choice process into a direction instead of a specific career path.
In Grade 10-12 we offer a wide range of subjects. Students write the IEB NSC exam which is equivalent to a CAPS NSC certificate and is accepted as an international benchmark for university acceptance.

There is plenty of support in the classroom throughout the school day and our teachers also offer Extra Classes in the afternoons after school where students can request extra lessons on specific topics with specific teachers. This extra support is included in the school fee. We also offer Academic support classes with a learning support teacher to a limited number of students once per week.
We offer Accommodations (Concessions) through the IEB. Following an Educaitonal Psychology report, parents can apply to the IEB for accommodations for exams. Silvermine Academy does not make use of in-person scribes and readers. We use an approved software, Exam Portal. The use of this program is billed to parents per exam period and is subsidised by the school.
Silvermine Academy is a Smart Phone Free School for students. We require students to hand in their phones at the beginning of the school day. Grade 8-9 students rent a Chromebook which is formally managed by the school. Grade 10-12 students are required to bring a tablet or laptop to school for access to the school's digital resources. Device use is purposeful and strictly controlled.
Google Classroom is the main way through which we share resources and make teachers' planning accessible to students. We also strongly encourage students to use the Google Apps when creating and submitting assignments.
